Born and raised in Portland, Texas, Vance “Wart” Dawson IV started Dawson’s Recycling in 1997 at 25. Just starting up, the business was based on his dad’s (Vance Dawson III) and his grandpa’s (Vance Dawson Jr.) shop, then known as Dawson’s Pipe and Cable. He started the business by picking up “old beer cans,” as he would say, and recycling them. Moving his business to Gregory in the year 2000, he grew the scrap yard that we have now. But by 2001, the scrap market was tanking. He had to do what needed to be done to keep the business going that he had started just a few years before. This led to Vance buying his first roll-off truck to haul trash, which initiated the new name Dawson’s Recycling and Disposal.

20+ years later, Vance Dawson IV grew this company to what it is today with almost 30 employees, ten roll-off trucks, three semi-trucks, multiple Monstar Trailers, and 7.5 acres of scrap metal that we buy and sell daily. He was a big believer in “a handshake is a handshake” and “my word is my word” kind of business. In 2020, the Aransas Pass Chamber was awarded Dawson’s Recycling and Disposal “Business of the Year.” If Vance were here today, he would say, “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my team. My team got me where I am today and where I will be tomorrow.” Vance was all about his team and family. He considered his team to be his family. And there wasn’t a day that would go by where he would not rave about them.
